I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know" is a number one country music single for The Davis Sisters in 1953. The song, written by Cecil Null, was the first hit for the duo of Skeeter Davis and Betty Jack Davis and their only one as Betty Jack was killed in an automobile accident the week the record was released. The song was one of five tracks recorded (including two versions of the "B" side, "Rockabye Boogie") on May 23, 1953
You could fill a whole list of the best gospel songs just with Mahalia Jackson’s music, so a special mention also goes for her 1958 version of ‘Joshua Fit The Battle of Jericho’, sung with such feeling and gusto. Marian Anderson: ‘Move On Up A Little Higher’. Move On Up A Little Higher’ was another seminal hit for Mahalia Jackson. Among the range of fine songs on the album is the gorgeous ‘I’d Rather Have Jesus’, written by the gospel star George Beverly Shea. Written by noted gospel songwriter Albert E Brumley, ‘I’ll Fly Away’ was recorded by close-harmony specialists and identical twins The Kossoy Sisters in 1956. A sublime version by Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss was later used by the Coen Brothers in O Brother, Where Art Thou?. Kanye West has even recorded a version.
but we know, don't we? More songs from Blood, Sweat & Tears. More songs inspired by soul music.
Gospel originally meant the Christian message itself, but in the 2nd century it came to be used for the books in which the message was set out. The four canonical gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John-were probably written between AD 66 and 110, building on older sources and traditions, and each gospel has its own distinctive understanding of Jesus and his divine role

American musician Ray Charles blended jazz, gospel, pop and country. His talent earned him the title 'The Genius. Read about his life at Biography. You'd have to remove the music from me surgically-like you were taking out my appendix. Love is a special word, and I use it only when I mean it. You say the word too much and it becomes cheap. There will never be another musician who did as much to break down the perceived walls of musical genres. Ray used to say that if he had a dime, he would give me a nickel. Well, I would give that nickel back to have him still be here with us, but I know that heaven has become a much better place with him in i. More than 1,500 people came to say goodbye to the musical legend at his funeral. King, Willie Nelson and Stevie Wonder were among those who performed at the service.
