Billy" Vaughn was a singer, t, songwriter, arranger, conductor, choral and orchestral leader. Vaughn was known as "Billy" from a very early age and began his musical career as a pianist in the Western Kentucky student group The Hilltoppers, who took their name from the local college basketball team. Vaughn was the songwriter of the foursome, performing along with lead singer Jimmy Sacca and harmonizers Donald McGuire and Seymour Spiegelman.

William Richard Vaughn (April 12, 1919 – September 26, 1991) was an American singer, t, orchestra leader, and A&R man for Dot Records. Vaughn was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, where his father was a barber who loved music and inspired Billy to teach himself to play the mandolin at the age of three, while suffering from measles. He went on to learn a number of other instruments.
