Christian Mistress is an American heavy metal band, formed in Olympia, Washington in 2008. The band is signed to Relapse Records. Prior to the establishment of the band, the vocalist Christine Davis fronted the thrash metal band Buried Blood. Ryan and Oscar played guitar in two of Olympia's premier metal bands. After Ryan and Oscar's bands both broke up they decided to start writing and playing music together.

On Possession, the quintet's second LP and first for Relapse, her warm rasp leads the band through no-frills proto-thrash, grandiose classic rock, and smoky doom. On "Pentagram and Crucifix", she perfectly mirrors the band's chug-and-release motion, singing in tense spurts before stretching out to howl about wicked religious hierarchies. During "Black to Gold", the album's true anthem, all five elements coalesce better than they have for Christian Mistress. Davis lends an inescapable hook, Sparbel and McClain duel like two DJs spinning stacks of classic wax, and the rhythm section pushes forward and pulls back with fists-in-the-air enthusiasm.

The Verdict: Possession makes Christian Mistress the first serious contender for album-of-the-year status. Whatever flaw I found on the debut album, it's been perfected on Possession. Christine Davis is nothing but a goddess of heavy metal, the vocal melodies are as creative and great as before, if not even better, pure shiver-inducing magic. The lyrics are also one of her strongest points, you can tell she sings from the heart and her heart is made of lust, witchery, occultism, psychedelic drugs and lots passion.
