Conquistador! is an album by Cecil Taylor released on the Blue Note label. Both of the Taylor Blue Notes are quite historic and near-classics but, despite this important documentation, Cecil Taylor (other than a pair of Paris concerts) would not appear on records again until 1973". All compositions by Cecil Taylor.

And of course, Cecil Taylor, one of the greatest musicians ever. And I don't mean among the other two-thousand "greatest musicians ever;" I mean that he is probably one of the top 10 greatest musicians who ever lived. Other musicians have even said that he was greater than Stravinsky. This album has been out of print for a very long time; it was only just reissued by Blue Note in 2004. Recorded in 1966, Conquistador came from one of the two only sessions that Taylor had with Blue Note (the other one, only a few months earlier, produced Unit Structures). An earlier Taylor album, Jazz Advance, has been reissued by Blue Note, but it was originally recorded for an independent label. At any rate, it's an absolute joy to have the other half of his Blue Note sessions.

Conquistador is the ninth album by Canadian jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson on Columbia Records. The album is notable for its inclusion of the hit single "Gonna Fly Now (Theme from "Rocky")". After the experience of creating Primal Scream without his touring band, Maynard was determined to see them become an integral part of his next effort. While Bob James was firmly in control of the production, Ferguson was insistent that his band members would be a part of the proceedings

Info for Conquistador! „For the second of Cecil Taylor's two Blue Note albums (following Unit Structures), the innovative pianist utilized a sextet comprised of trumpeter Bill Dixon, altoist Jimmy Lyons, both Henry Grimes and Alan Silva on basses and drummer Andrew Cyrille. During the two lengthy pieces, Lyons' passionate solos contrast with Dixon's quieter ruminations while the music in general is unremittingly intense.

Cecil Taylor: Conquistador! by Colin Fleming, published on October 17, 2004. Odd as it may sound, if you are new to Taylor's music, and before proceeding to the Caf' Montmartre sessions, you're perhaps best off starting with this record, an avant-garde jazz walkabout of sorts, or at least a Cecil Taylor walkabout; here we can bear witness to the qualities, in different ideas, forms, themes and styles, that characterize an entire.
