After numerous personnel changes, the original members scattered to various groups, Heinz Burt starting his own solo career and Cattini becoming a British session mainstay of producer Shel Talmy.

The quintet enjoyed several more UK hits, though the original line-up began to fall apart when Heinz Burt left for a solo career as a vocalist in 1963 (he scored one major UK hit, "Just Like Eddie" later that year), and none of the original members remained by the time the Tornados finally disbanded upon Meek's death in 1967. Do not confuse with american surf rock band The Tornadoes, famous for the track "Bustin' Surfboards".

The album with the same name was belatedly released on September 20, 1963. The band, however, did not manage to follow up on their success. The band temporarily changed their name to The Hollywood Tornadoes, because the British band, The Tornados, were charting with the song "Telstar. Bustin' Surfboards" was included on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack in 1994, thereby renewing interest in the band. The Tornadoes continued to perform through 2007.
