Composed By, Sitar, Performer – Hasu Patel. Music Director, Conductor – Libi Lebel. Doctors Orchestra of Houston presents World Premiere of Sitar Concerto Mangal Dhwani 'Auspicious Sound' (The Classical Music of North India based on Raga Bageswari).

Listen to this unique Sitar Concerto - 'Mangal Dhwani' traditionally composed Hasu Patel, based on Indian raga Bageswari for Doctors Orchestra of Houston, accompanied by Sitar and Tabla. Genre: World: Indian Classical. Surprisingly, few weeks later, I received another call, this time from Libi Lebel, the conductor of Doctors Orchestra of Houston, asking me to accept the same challenge. Here also, I agreed to compose the music. With the concert dates set, I eagerly faced the challenge of composing music for the Western Orchestra.

HASU PATEL, a disciple of sitar legend Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib, is one of the few world-class female artists performing today Classical Music on sitar, the most popular string instrument of India. She founded Sursangam School of Music, where students learn sitar, tabla and vocal music. Born in the culturally rich city of Baroda, India, Hasu began her musical studies in early childhood. At the age of 10, she made her first public appearance.

The Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47, was written by Jean Sibelius in 1904, revised in 1905. It is his only concerto. It is symphonic in scope, with the solo violin and all sections of the orchestra being equal voices. An extended cadenza for the soloist takes on the role of the development section in the first movement. Sibelius originally dedicated the concerto to the noted violinist Willy Burmester, who promised to play the concerto in Berlin

Hasu Patel’s collection of traditional ragas for sitar are little invitations to the world, invitations to reflect on the deepest concept known to humankind: The Divine - the nature of which we acknowledge, from our various traditions, exists somewhere beyond thought and imagination. They are exquisite examples of the evocative, inviting qualities of this tradition and this instrument. Hasu Patel studied under the great Vilayat Khan starting as a young girl, and her collection of ragas offers a beautiful example of Gayaki Ang style. It was (and is) not at all common for a master sitar player to choose a girl as a student, but the master must have sensed something very special in young Hasu. And here, decades later, we can sense it too. Another noticeably different approach in these ragas is her use of the Alap.

HASU PATEL, a disciple of Sitar legend Ustad Vilayat Khan Saheb is one of the few distinguished female artists performing today classical music on Sitar, the most popular string instrument of India. As a performer, composer, and educator, she has dedicated her life to preserving and propagating in its pristine purity the fascinating, highly evolved classical music of Ancient India. Her father was her mentor who instilled the love and discipline needed to become a musician
