Rhinoceros - Back Door flac album

Back Door is the eponymously titled debut studio album of Back Door, released independently in 1972 by Blakey Records. It received wider distribution when it was adopted by Warner Bros. It introduced the group's virtuoso approach to jazz, funk, soul, blues and hard rock music. In 2005, the album was listed on JazzTimes' top fifty albums released between 1970 and 2005. In 2014 it was re-released on CD, compiled with 8th Street Nites and Another Fine Mess, by BGO Records.

Rhinoceros' self-titled debut album, produced by Paul Rothchild, was also released in 1968. Despite heavy promotion and critical acclaim it didn't sell well. However, the instrumental "Apricot Brandy", written by Weis and Fonfara, reached on the Billboard Charts and was later used as a signature tune by BBC radio, and covered by Danny Gatton for the 1990 compilation Rubáiyát. Another of the album's songs, "I Will Serenade You", written by John Finley, was covered by Three Dog Night as "Let Me Serenade You" and went to in the US in 1973. In 2008 they released 'Back Door Too!' album, a mixture of old Back Door songs and new material. BACK DOOR Videos (YouTube and more). I think the music of Back Door on their debut would have been fun to watch live and even the album might have been a good entry back in early-70's, but today it sounds quite sterile and monotonous. Even so, Jazz-Rock fanatics will find a good dose of enjoyment on this one but they will be propably the only ones.

There are some excellent soul-drenched rock recordings here - from the album-opening "When You Say You're Sorry" to possibly one of the best-ever versions of "You're My Girl," the group was capable of some mighty music. One of the tracks, the heavy instrumental "Apricot Brandy," was used as the theme for a BBC television show.
