Cavalleria rusticana: Cavalleria rusticana: Beato voi, compar Alfio by RCA Victor Orchestra;Renato Cellini. The beloved pairing of purpled verismo operas, "Cavalleria rusticana" and "Pagliacci," have often encouraged forays into the recording studio, beloved as they are by sopranos, tenors, baritones, and audiences. Unfortunately, a certain lack of discipline crept into the performing of the works, encouraging the adding of high notes at the expense of the finely-wrought scores of Pietro Mascagni and Ruggero Leoncavallo.

Work - Composer :Cavalleria Rusticana - Pietro Mascagni. Opera house :Grosses Festspielhaus. New production, Coproduction with the Saxon State Opera, Dresden. With Paggliaci in second part. Perhaps not as well known as some more regularly staged operas, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci (by Mascagni and Leoncavallo, respectively) are, nonetheless, major operas in the history of the genre . ublished on the 25 of March, 2015.

Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana (Rustic Chivalry) and Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci (The Players) are today Italian opera’s most famous double act, but they were written independently. Cavalleria rusticana came first, its hugely successful premiere in 1890 doubtless an influence on Leoncavallo. His Pagliacci in 1892 was another triumph.
