Clifford Brown, Album. Complete Paris Sessions, Vol. 1. Advertisement. In a way, Brown was the Wynton Marsalis of his time; like Marsalis, Brown came on the jazz scene following a period of significant stylistic change. However, unlike Marsalis (who rejected the free jazz made famous by the generation just preceding his own), Brown chose to embrace the innovations of his immediate elders. While in Paris, Brown recorded a series of sides with mostly French rhythm sections for the Vogue label, several of which are reissued here. Half the cuts feature Brown as a featured soloist with a big band comprised of Hampton's bandmembers and led by alto saxophonist Gigi Gryce.

Three of the songs (plus two alternate takes) feature a big band headed by altoist Gigi Gryce and have both Americans from the 1953 Lionel Hampton Orchestra (including Brown, trumpeter Art Farmer, trombonist Jimmy Cleveland and tenorman Clifford Solomon) and French players (such as pianist Henri Renaud and bassist Pierre Michelot).

Memorial Album is an album by American jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown composed of tracks recorded at two sessions in 1953 and originally released on the Blue Note label in September 1956. Apart from a few obscure recordings, the album represents the first tracks recorded under Brown's leadership.
