Peter Gabriel is the third eponymous solo album by English rock musician Peter Gabriel, released on 23 May 1980 by Charisma Records. The album has been acclaimed as Gabriel's artistic breakthrough as a solo artist and for establishing him as one of rock's most ambitious and innovative musicians

Peter Gabriel is the fourth eponymous album released by English rock musician Peter Gabriel; in the United States, the album was originally released under the title Security. The songs on the album cover a wide variety of subject matter. The Rhythm of the Heat" is based on Carl Jung's experience while observing a group of African drummers.

Peter Gabriel said in the Under African Skies documentary: "'Biko' was a more overt political song than the work of Graceland, but Graceland introduced millions of people around the world to what was wonderful about South African music. It made people feel good, want to dance - there were so many positives in Africa, yet most of us still have this image of a child surrounded by flies or Africa as a basket case that needs help. Eric from Seattle, WaThe Soweto Gospel Choir does a beautiful rendition of this song from their album, "Blessed". Joe Sbommbo from Los Angeles, CaBiko was covered, very well I would say, in 1983 by Martin Simpson a british folk guitar maestro. For a time resident in the USA.

Features Song Lyrics for Peter Gabriel's Biko album. Peter Gabriel - Biko Album Lyrics. 1. Biko (video mix) Lyrics. 4. Biko (extended version) Lyrics.

Released 22nd May, 1980. Recorded both at his home studio at Ashcombe House, near Bath, and at London’s Townhouse Studios, Peter’s third self-titled album was produced by Steve Lillywhite. The album saw Peter change his writing style; now the rhythm came before the melody and the songs were built up on top of the rhythmic sequences. The album delivered a top 5 UK single in Games Without Frontiers and Peter’s first overtly political song in the shape of totemic closer Biko. It also features notable contributions from Kate Bush, Paul Weller, Phil Collins and David Rhodes. I think that the third album was quite important for me in terms of really having a defining sound and the band coming through. It was the first record where I was clearly doing something different from what other people were doing. I was looking around for some young, new and interesting people that I could work with.

Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko Yihla moja, yihla moja The man is dead The man is dead. When I try and sleep at night I can only dream in red The outside world is black and white With only one colour dead. Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko Yihla moja, yihla moja The man is dead The man is dead. You can blow out a candle But you can't blow out a fire Once the flames begin to catch The wind will blow it higher. Released in 1980 by British rock musician, Peter Gabriel, in his self-titled album, Biko tells the story of Stephen Bantu Biko’s death. com/watch?v luVpsM3YAgw. Written By Peter Gabriel.

Complete your Peter Gabriel collection. Biko' is a truly thought-provoking piece - a hit that condemns pop-music as form of entertainment. The 12" version needs no specific introduction - like the original album version, this one is a fight-against adventure all of its own, extended and more confrontational towards racist violence. A shocking collage on the rear cover of the single, juxtaposing severe burns on Biko's body with everyday leisure life, serves the warning purpose alone - but once you hear the music contents, it certainly won't make you indifferent - but politically aware.
