The album was recorded live at The Fox Theatre, St Louis, Missouri and Berry Park, Wentzville, Missouri on October 6 and October 16, 1986. The event was held to celebrate Berry's 60th birthday and it included several special guests.

This album defines rock and roll in its entirety. Saying this deserves number three is like saying Kanye West doesn't have an ego. This is THE album, this is THE best compilation of songs and themes all woven into one record. While there are other albums that might be more consistently good all the way, IV/Zoso reaches such unbelievable highs that it's comparable with some of the Beatles' best work. It covers so many genres (blues, rock n' roll, folk, prog, stoner, math rock, and metal) but remains consistent and seamless all the way through. It's a gorgeous 40-minute journey through music. 7/8 of the tracks are the best songs I've ever heard, and that 1/8 is only great.
