Danny Elfman, who has scored many of Tim Burton's imaginative films (Edward Scissorhands, his two Batman films, et., is a perfect musical partner for the somewhat macabre director, and never more so than here, where, in fact, Elfman gets not only to write the music but to play the part of the main character. The Nightmare Before Christmas is an animated movie musical about the abduction of Christmas by the denizens of Halloween land, and Elfman sings the part of Jack, the Pumpkin King

It was released on October 12, 1993, by Walt Disney Records to promote the 1993 American stop-motion animated musical dark fantasy film The Nightmare Before Christmas. This is a re-issue of the soundtrack, to celebrate the 2006 theatrical re-release of the film in 3-D. It features a bonus disc of artists covering the original Danny Elfman songs, as well as some demo versions of Elfman's original score pieces. The album cover is also 3-D.

There is an alternate version available, exclusive to Best Buy stores. It features 2 extra Elfman demos on disc 2; "Town Meeting Song" and "What's This?"
