On Oct. 12th 1971, the music for this album has been recorded at Horst Jankowski's studio, Stuttgart, Germany. In those days, it was the pianist Joe Haider's biggest desire to record a trio-album. During several years, Haider stayed at a house bearing that awkward name of 'Katzenvilla'. Nevertheless, the pianist recalls to have spent good and significant times there. Each title of this album relates to a story of this man's human and musical development during an important period of his life. To assure a truly spontaneous recording of his material, Haider called upon his friends from Switzerland, bassist Isla Eckinger and drummer Pierre Favre.

Pianist Joe Haider leads a "double quartet" on this continually intriguing release. His quartet, which features the fine tenor and soprano saxophonist Thomi Geiger, is joined by the Modern String Quartet for eight originals, five by the pianist. The music is sometimes third stream and hints at modern classical music, but on other occasions is swinging jazz or a ballad with strings. The variety, the high musicianship of the players (which in spots has the strings improvising and even soloing), and the diverse moods keep this set quite stimulating

Haider, a Swiss national by choice, is accompanied on this wonderfully varied album by two Swiss jazz musicians, who were born in 1980 (Claudio Strüby) and 1982 respectively (Raffaele Bossard). Bassist Raffaele Bossard is already a longtime companion of Haider and has already recorded four albums alongside the pianist. As a companion, Bossard acts at the same time solidly and with agility, and his improvisatory digressions are characterized by a wonderful balance of gravity and virtuosity.
