The album's booklet summarizes the contents of the texts but otherwise does little to explain to the newcomer what is being heard; it does not even explain the term sticheron, which denotes a liturgical hymn in the Orthodox church. Ivan's two examples are each about a half hour long and seem to narrate a story in great detail.

Ivan The Terrible ‎– Stichera. Label: Мелодия ‎– MEL CD 1001820. Fragment Of Ivan IV The Terrible's Letter To Prince Andrei Kurbsky. 4.

Ivan IV Vasilyevich (/ˈaɪvən/; Russian: Ива́н Васи́льевич, tr. Ivan Vasilyevich; 25 August 1530 – 28 March 1584), commonly known as Ivan the Terrible (Russian: Ива́н Гро́зный, Ivan Grozny; "Ivan the Formidable" or "Ivan the Fearsome"), was the Grand Prince of Moscow from 1533 to 1547 and the first Tsar of Russia from 1547 to 1584.

Ivan the Terrible demonstrated a deep understanding of the original sources, their artistic processing, as well as his education, expressed in the knowledge of the tradition and its creative implementation. In the new historical context of his reign, Tsar Ivan worked theintensively over these sources and added a more patriotic sounding content to the cycles. Thanks to the tsar’s skill, his stichera are a fine example of the creation of new meaning on the basis of the tradition.

Ivan the Terrible by Eisenstein, the second part. Ivan the Terrible was a very cruel person. You can depict him as a cruel man, but you have to show why he had to be cruel. One of the mistakes of Ivan concerned the fact that he did not entirely butcher the five major feudal families. Then, there would not be troubles later o. .He should have been more resolute, Stalin said pointing to the fact that Eisenstein’s Ivan was indecisive, resembling Hamlet.

Ivan the Terrible (Russian: Иван Грозный), Op. 116, is the score composed by Sergei Prokofiev in 1942–45 for Sergei Eisenstein's film Ivan the Terrible and its sequel (1946), the first two parts of an incomplete trilogy. The project was Prokofiev's second collaboration with Eisenstein, the first being the popular Aleksandr Nevskiy (1938). The majority of the non-liturgical song texts were written by Vladimir Lugovskoy, who collaborated with Prokofiev on the texts for Aleksandr Nevskiy.
