Songs That Sound Like The Movies: The Complete Epic Recordings. Like usual, Rupert wrote every song on this album himself, & he displays his boundless songwriting creativity by unleashing one astonishingly well-crafted, inspired gem after another. The Pina Colada Song" starts the album off in great fashion, but it's only the tip of the iceberg. The title track makes great use of a galloping drum line, features mind-bogglingly crafty lyrics, and has a deathless chorus.

We thank Rupert Holmes for the many hours he spent with us compiling this discography. At the moment, we have not even begun to complete a listing of all the songs he sang as various studio recording groups in the early seventies, except for a few chart recordings, although in time we hope to have that up-to-date as well.

Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" is a song written and recorded by British-born American singer Rupert Holmes for his album Partners in Crime. As the lead single for the album, the pop song was recommended by Billboard for radio broadcasters on September 29, 1979, then added to prominent US radio playlists in October–November. Rising in popularity, the song peaked at the end of December to become the last US number one song of the 1970s.

Talk about Rupert Holmes - Songs That Sound Like Movies: The Complete Epic Recordings

Landaron
An excellent compendium of the truly seminal albums by Mr. Holmes, augmented by additional recordings, demos, and edits from the same time period. It's nice to have so many bonus tracks included; all that seem to be missing of the issued Epic tracks here are the single edit of "Talk," the instrumental "Weekend Lover, pt. 2," and the alternate edit of "Psycho Drama." Highly recommended to anyone with even a passing interest in the beautiful side of American Pop of the 1970s, or any curiosity as to what unbelievably beautiful music, lyrics, and more (cf. "Psycho Drama") were coming from this man prior to "Escape." Now we just need an issue of the soundtrack he did for the X-rated movie in which he and his inamorata had to redub all the sounds of passion...
