Still Life is the fourth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. The album was produced and engineered by Opeth alongside Fredrik Nordström, and released on 18 October 1999 through Peaceville Records. It was the first Opeth album to be released through Peaceville, following their departure from Candlelight and Century Black after the release of My Arms, Your Hearse, and the first album to feature Martin Mendez.

The Raven Chacon Mini-Festival at Toronto’s The Music Gallery runs from 12–14 April. Participating artists and musicians include Chacon, Laura Ortman, Suzanne Kite, Cheryl L’Hirondelle, C RL (Allison Cameron, Nicole Rampersaud and Germaine Liu), Olivia Shortt, Carmina Escobar and the Array ensemble. Saturday sees the world premiere of Chacon’s For Zitkála-Šá, a work dedicated to the Dakota violin teacher and activist, who was also the librettist of The Sun Dance Opera (1913) – the first American Indian opera.

Still Life No. 3 retells the Diné Bahaneʼ, the Navajo story of creation and emergence into the current world. The piece is comprised of sound, speakers, text and timed colored light which scrolls through several hues over a 24-hour cycle – relating to colors referenced in the Diné origin story. By doing this, the artist creates ambiguity in the gallery space and narrative of the Diné emergence story. The exhibition will allow for an immersive and metaphysical space within the confines of the gallery to create room for pensive reflection, sense of place, and situationality. Chacon is currently based between Albuquerque and Toronto, Ontario.

Reimagining Chamber Music With Raven Chacon. Growing up in the Navajo Nation, Raven Chacon loved to rip apart cassette tapes, piece them back together and revel in the discordant sounds they produced. These days, he still experiments with noise music, but Chacon’s also a major innovator in chamber composition. For instance, one of his scores uses firearms as percussion. His pieces require musicians to use different approaches in playing and listening, and he often trades traditional musical notation for symbols or storytelling.
