Watertown is a studio album by American singer Frank Sinatra. It was released in March 1970 through Reprise Records. Watertown is a concept album centered on a man from Watertown, New York. In a series of soliloquies, the nameless narrator tells his heartbreaking story of personal loss: his wife has left him and their two boys for the lure of the big city. Watertown was produced and co-written by Bob Gaudio, one of four members of the rock band the Four Seasons.
Watertown is Frank Sinatra's most ambitious concept album, as well as his most difficult record. Not only does it tell a full-fledged story, it is his most explicit attempt at rock-oriented pop. Since the main composer of Watertown is Bob Gaudio, the author of the Four Seasons' hits "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," "Walk Like a Man," and "Big Girls Don't Cry," that doesn't come as a surprise. With Jake Holmes, Gaudio created a song cycle concerning a middle-aged, small-town man whose wife left him with the kids. In fact, he turns in a wonderful performance, drawing out every emotion from the lyrics, giving the album's character depth.

An ambitious concept album about an imaginary town, Frank Sinatra’s ‘Watertown’ is one of his least-known albums, but remains a high-water mark in his career. Published on. December 12, 2014. If A Man Alone, Sinatra’s 1969 album, was ambitious and different, then Frank clearly thought it was a trend worth continuing the following year with Watertown. Bob Gaudio and Jake Holmes created this tale of a man who has been left by his wife to look after their children. Each song adds to the imagery and at the same time conveys the sadness of a man without hope

Frank Sinatra released a number of concept albums during his career, none quite as challenging as Watertown from 1970, the tragic story of a man from a small town whose wife leaves him and takes their two sons. Arranged as a series of soliloquies, Sinatra overdubbed his vocals in Hollywood to orchestral backing tracks recorded earlier in New York, the only time in his career he made an album that way. 192 kHz, 24-bit, 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM – FRANK SINATRA DIGITAL REPRISE Studio Masters.
