The Coal Porters album, No. 6, was produced by John Wood, the legendary British folk-rock mastermind who recorded the classic albums of Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, Beth Orton and Squeeze. No. 6 was released on 16 September 2016 on Prima Records Ltd. Recorded in two creative bursts in late 2014 and in 2015 this Coal Porters album took three years to incubate.

6 is the sixth and best album from the Coal Porters, the acoustic band formed by ex-Long Ryder Sid Griffin some ten years ago. Featuring nine originals and a cover of the Only Ones' punk era classic, Another Girl Another Planet, this is the high-water mark of the Coal Porters' career.

The Coal Porters are a British-American bluegrass band headquartered in London and led by Sid Griffin (mandolin, autoharp, harmonica and vocals) and Neil Robert Herd (guitar and vocals). The other members are Kerenza Peacock (fiddle, vocals), Paul Fitzgerald (banjo, vocals) and Andrew Stafford (bass, vocals). Their latest release, No. 6, appeared in September 2016 on the Prima label, distributed in the UK by Proper and in the USA by Burnside. The album title reflects the number of releases the Coal Porters have issued since shifting from their country-rock beginnings to alternative bluegrass. Their preceding album, Find The One, from 2012, also offers 10 tracks written by various band members, as well as covers of David Bowie's Heroes and the Rolling Stones' Paint It, Black.
