Jon Hassell (born March 22, 1937) is an American trumpet player and composer active since the 1960s. He is best known for developing the musical concept known as "Fourth World," which unifies ideas from minimalism, various world music sources, and his electronic manipulation of the trumpet.

Deane plays sounds (drums, bass, sampled trumpets, string clusters) and-through good sense and timing-adds important detail to the composition. Farafina is a group of 8 musicians/dancers from Burkina Faso in West.

Brian Eno did much of the mixing here and was completely in tune with Hassell's approach. Deane, another frequent collaborator with Hassell, is also on hand to lend some of his unique trombone electronics
