There has been plenty of on screen entertainment in recent times for the Beckett enthusiast, now his works return to the stage, as Conor Lovett brings the final leg of his 'Molloy'/'Malone Dies' tour back to Ireland. Produced by the Gare St Lazare Players, and directed by Lovett's wife, Judy Hegarty, the production offers an intelligent and exciting interpretation of the first two works in Beckett's novel trilogy. Why Beckett? The actor started to perform Molloy in 1997. There's Shakespeare, and then there is Beckett," Lovett explains

Although best known for his work as a playwright, Samuel Beckett also wrote a number of novels throughout his life. Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival will be presenting theatrical adaptations of three of his novels-Molloy, Malone Dies, and The Unnamable-in The Beckett Trilogy by the company Gare St. Lazare Ireland November 3rd-5th. Gare St. Lazare Ireland was co-founded by Judy Hegarty Lovett who also directed and co-adapted this production. Judy has become known as one of the premiere interpreters of Beckett’s work. We recently spoke to her about adapting Beckett’s novels for the stage.

The Unnamable is a 1953 novel by Samuel Beckett. It is the third and final entry in Beckett's "Trilogy" of novels, which begins with Molloy followed by Malone Dies. It was originally published in French as L'Innommable and later adapted by the author into English. The Unnamable consists entirely of a disjointed monologue from the perspective of an unnamed (presumably unnamable) and immobile protagonist

Husband and wife team Conor Lovett and Judy Hegarty Lovett on the award-winning show they are bringing to Londo. Conor Lovett won the Stage Award for Acting Excellence at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for his part in American playwright Will Eno’s one-man show Title and Deed, and the pair are looking forward to bringing the play to London this month. Director Judy Hegarty Lovett says it took a long time to find the right piece and they are thrilled with how it’s turned out so far. The couple’s relationship with Will Eno goes back about 15 years, explains Hegarty Lovett.

Molloy, Samuel Beckett. This is a production of the play Molloy, Samuel Beckett by Gare St. Lazare Players Ireland, started 15th May 2010, at Oxford Playhouse.

Brian picked Molloy by Samuel Beckett. Then they talked about it. Brian Evenson is the author of many books of fiction, most recently the story collection Windeye and the novel Immobility. CW: In many ways, the character of Molloy is a typical Beckett centerpiece. An older, enfeebled figure, attempting a report on his life, while also simply attempting to move (often characters will strain to even lift a leg - I love the description of Molloy riding a bike). It made me suspicious of Moran - a character who, at first, is unlike the majority of characters in the Beckett universe.
