Thursday, November 15, 2007. Esquivel - See It in Sound (1960). It seems that after producing his fifth American album, Strings Aflame, Esquivel set out to create a unique musical journey. Recorded in 1960, See It in Sound is fascinating because it integrates off-kilter music with real-world ambient sounds. It really expands the concept of what an "album" could be at the time. In this way, it's very modern; it's reminiscent of current soundtrack albums that mix dialogue and sound effects into the music.

Nevertheless, there is plenty of wonderful music to found on the album, even though most of it sounds like pleasant soundtrack or elevator music, devoid of much of the quirkiness that fueled Space Age. INFINITY IN SOUND VOL. 1 (1960) was the first collaboration between the Mexican arranger Esquivel, and producer Neely Plumb and engineer John Norman, in which the lounge music king began to push studio recording techniques to their limits, including extreme stereo separation, you-are-there instrumental effects, and a general sense of anything-goes experimentation. VOL. 2 toned down the gaudy excesses to an extent and is considered one of Esquivel's best albums as a result. This two-fer was originally released on Bar/None in 1997 and has been reissued on Wounded Bird.

This sound that is on this Cd,has such nostalgic value to those over 40 yrs ol. or some of us,there was a sound in the 50',60',70's,that was what used to be referred to as "elavator music". But for me personally, epecially since I am a musician;I find this style of music quite enjoyable. It makes me. think of days gone by,and sceneries in my mind that may have never existed in the real world, but in the mind they bring comfort when I hear this type of music. Maybe it's a place, that we all wish existed
