SBTRKT's debut album brought a much-needed dose of soul to electronic music. Drawing from house, . garage, R&B, and dubstep, the producer forged a style of after-hours club music that doesn't so much bang as purr, and the hushed vocals of collaborators-like Sampha, Jessie Ware, and Little Dragon-lend extra intimacy to his soft synths and spacious beats. One listen to the luscious low end on cuts like "Hold On" is enough to know why they call it "bass music.

Those other guys- Blake, Woon- might have a purer artistic vision, but of the three, SBTRKT has arguably assembled the broadest and most listenable collection of songs. And in a field where approachability isn't always given a ton of weight, it feels brave to take this more song-oriented path and pull it off.

SBTRKT (pronounced "subtract") is the musical project led by Aaron Jerome. SBTRKT has remixed songs by artists such as . A, Radiohead, Modeselektor, Basement Jaxx, Mark Ronson, and Underworld, and has released singles, EPs, and two albums. His music has been playlisted by BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music. SBTRKT also has performed live with frequent collaborator Sampha

But it's in his more nocturnal offerings that the album is more in keeping with his maverick persona, as he effortlessly glides from twinkling electro to soulful skittering garage and back again on the angelic melodies of "Sanctuary.

Label: Young Turks ‎– YTLP060. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album. I loved this album when it was released. Beautiful dance album with a hint of uk garage, a hint of broken beat ("Sanctuary" is very close to Bugz, "Ready Set Loop" seems like something from Dego or Domu), very nice vocals from Jessie Ware, Little Dragon and the dramatic Sampha, and two memorable numbers: the "i'm in love but I can't say it" song "Something goes right" and the. catchy and poppy "Pharaohs". Really deserved the electronic scene respect and the mainstream success

SBTRKT's downtempo, mellow nature means it's a dance album that's unlikely to ever be played in a club, but showing James Blake that sparse, minimal dubstep and well-crafted pop melodies aren't mutually exclusive, it's a daring debut which lives up to the masked man's "next big thing" label.

No download card for me either. Not a big deal as I stream through Spotify but I can understand that others would be frustrated.
Runehammer
Same here. Why I have to enter at least 8 more words to post it?!

sounds pretty great. but I find the vocal sibilances distort a bit when they are loud.
