The Boy Who Knew Too Much is the second studio album by singer Mika. It was released on 21 September 2009, under Republic in the United States and Island in the United Kingdom. Mika worked with producer Greg Wells, who also produced his debut album Life in Cartoon Motion. The album was written in Olympic Studios, London, which began in June 2008. In September 2008 he moved to Rocket Carousel Studios, Los Angeles, where the album was recorded.
Making an album even more vibrant than Life in Cartoon Motion would have been difficult for Mika. On The Boy Who Knew Too Much, he doesn't try to top himself; instead, he reins in just enough of his debut's indulgent tendencies to let his gift for great melodies and hooks be the focus.
THE BOY WHO KNEW TOO MUCH Produced by Mika and Greg Wells (Katy Perry, P!nk), this record is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2007's LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION, which sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The new album features guest contributions by Imogen Heap and Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett, and contains brilliant first single of the same name, "We Are Golden". Following the age-old motto "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," Mika returned to Los Angeles, where he made his first record, and loaded his recording studio with visual inspiration, toys, posters, 60's children's books, trinkets and more to create a world entirely of his own where the songs could grow.
Toy Boy' is an unexpectedly cute cabaret fantasia that nonetheless sits rather in the shadow of the Dresden Dolls' ostensibly similar (but, inevitably, much more salacious) 'Coin Operated Boy'; but he hits paydirt with 'Rain', which lurches incongruously from his favoured oeuvres - and indeed eras - drawing sustenance from the unlikely 1996-centric double whammy of 'Your Woman' and 'Seven. Why, step right up to The Resistance.
