Mike Oldfield - QE2 flac album

This page is a discography for the musician Mike Oldfield. Although the introduction theme was used in The Exorcist, Tubular Bells (1973) was not a soundtrack album. Oldfield was commissioned to produce the music for NASA's The Space Movie in 1979; no soundtrack album was released at the time. However a DVD and CD soundtrack (though the CD content is just the audio track from the DVD, including voiceovers and sound effects) were issued in October 2015.

QE2 is the sixth record album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1980 on Virgin Records. The album was named after the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2. The album contained both original Oldfield compositions as well as two cover version of pieces recorded by other bands ("Arrival" by ABBA and "Wonderful Land" by The Shadows). Though only reaching number twelve on the German album charts, the album became the best-selling album of 1981 in Germany.

Mike Oldfield's 6th album, and the first to break from long album length pieces to shorter pieces that are more commercial. Despite this, there is plenty to like about this album and there is still plenty of the old Mike Oldfield in this album. Although some of pieces are harder edged and more rock rather than folk there are still lots of whimsical pieces. This album also features the collaboration of Maggie Reilly which will bring more commercial success in the 1980s with his next album.
