Never Show Your Genitals To An Animal, Pets Have Fears Too ‎(Cass, Album).

American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording is an album by the cast of American Idiot and Green Day. In September 2009, American Idiot began its run in the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, California. After two extensions, it was transferred to the St. James Theatre on Broadway. The first single from the album, "21 Guns" was released on December 3, 2009. The album also includes "When It's Time", a previously unreleased song written by Billie Joe Armstrong.

American Idiot was Green Day’s first album that was truly rock ‘n’ roll, a characteristic that Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod and even Warning lack. Pulling from themes set forth by the Who’s Tommy and the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Green Day embarked on their first rock opera concept record. It was also their first record to openly address and critique the politics of the time. I am now 23 looking back on that album with more of life’s doors unlocked only to find myself connecting on a deeper level with it as I have gotten older. The lyrical content, though written with a set purpose, can easily be misinterpreted to work for the listener’s own personal needs. Yes, Wake Me Up When September Ends is about death and loss, but it’s not about 9/11, it’s only perceived that way because that is how the generation viewed it at the time.

About American Idiot. For their fifth major label studio album, Green Day decided to go deeper in their themes, aiming for a punk rock opera reminiscent of The Who once the song Homecoming wound up as a Tommy-like suite. The album’s story follows Jesus of Suburbia, an adolescent anti-hero that is divided between rage and love, the former expressed by his alternate personality St. Jimmy and the latter with his significant other Whatsername. Green Day was originally recording an album called Cigarettes and Valentines, but after the master tapes were stolen, Green Day ought to start over from scratch and created the album we see today. The band took a three-month break and started from scratch to make American Idiot instead.

The Grammy winning album, American Idiot, was Green Day's first since 2000. This doesn't feel like the regular record weight, these are at least 120 if not 180 gram records. That's where the good news stops, however.

A decade later, Green Day's politically charged concept album remains one of the best, most important records of its era. The newest Between the Grooves series examines it in detail, starting with its mission statement title track. You will emerge from your experience with American Idiot physically tired, emotionally drained, and, quite possibly, changed forever. It is less an album than an experience that demands to be lived. It is a part of my life now, as well as the most satisfying hour of music I've ever heard. Nothing else even comes close. In short, American Idiot is flawless. Yeah, that’s about right. Ten years later, American Idiot remains not only Green Day’s finest work (by a mile), but also one of the best albums of its decade, and it deserves to be explored one song at a time.
