The Band is the second studio album by the Band, released on September 22, 1969. It is also known as The Brown Album. According to Rob Bowman's liner notes for the 2000 reissue, The Band has been viewed as a concept album, with the songs focusing on people, places and traditions associated with an older version of Americana.

In the mid-Seventies, the Band cut an album of oldies (1973’s Moondog Matinee); reunited with Dylan for the Planet Waves (1974) album and tour (which resulted in the live album Before the Flood ); recorded the best of their later albums (1975’s Northern Lights, Southern Cross); and then took their leave in 1976. The musical program, on which such luminaries as Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Eric Clapton and Joni Mitchell joined The Band onstage,.

Roe Erister "Rick" Hall (January 31, 1932 – January 2, 2018) was an American record producer, songwriter, music publisher, and musician best known as the owner and proprietor of FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. As the "Father of Muscle Shoals Music", he was influential in recording and promoting both country and soul music, and in helping develop the careers of such musicians as Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Duane Allman and Etta James.

The legendary music producer Rick Hall died in 2018 on this date (Jan. 2) at his home in Muscle Shoals, Al. after a battle with prostate cancer. The co-founder of FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals was 85 at the time of his death. A lifetime is not enough to appreciate his work.
