A Dying Machine is the fourth studio album and first concept album by heavy metal band Tremonti. It was released on June 8, 2018 via Napalm Records. The record was produced by Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who produced Tremonti's past three records and also produced Alter Bridge's records. The album is accompanied by a full-length novel under the same name written by Mark Tremonti and John Shirley, tying together loose ends of the album's plot.

You're no true soul, you'll never be Man-made device, you've haunted me You're built to serve, to calculate You're built to love, to overtake. Stay with me for I would never ever leave you Hold my hand for I would never ever let it see an end Oh, you are mine, oh, I could never ever leave you behind Oh, stay with me for I would never ever leave you. Look at you now, you're a dying machine Cold and disfigured, corrupted, diseased Again, you've come back, oh, I'll die in this place Mechanical cradle, synthetic.

A Dying Machine marks his fourth album released under his self-titled offshoot project. Upon hearing this newest release, I’m saddened by a lack of creative growth and have to conclude Tremonti has hit a peak. The guitar playing showcased within A Dying Machine is excellent both rhythmically and melodically. Metal fans should be appeased by razor-sharp riffage and ferocious solos. Tremonti doesn’t branch out from his skillset, leaving his newest album dry and predictable. The largest factor being song structure. I understand the fallacies in using song structure as a critique, as there are conventions within all artistic expression that help frame the art itself. But A Dying Machine becomes sickeningly predictable, to the point my ears were screaming for any form of variety.

On June 8th, Tremonti returns with their fourth album A Dying Machine, a concept album that showcases Mark’s unique songwriting style and vocal melodies. Anthemic choruses, punishing riffs and fiery guitar solos are showcased on the album in rockers like "From the Sky" and "Throw them to the Lions" and places them alongside the infectiously catchy "Take You With Me" and "The First The Last".

But with A Dying Machine I have to say this one is so far the most adventurous musically wise and also the most diverse album by Tremonti to date. Not only that, I dare to say that it is far more diverse than most of the albums that come out nowadays. I remember when the second single – Take You With Me came out my first thoughts were wow, this is different. At this point in his career as an outstanding musician, no one can doubt Mark Tremonti and his skills as a songrwriter and guitarist. What most probably underrate are his amazing skills as a vocalist, Tremonti is after all far less known than Alter Bridge or Creed back in the days. And you can only hear very little of Mark’s voice there, but certainly Waters Rising is one of my faves on Fortress album and shows off both on record and live that Mark certainly can sing well. I honestly cannot wait for the European tour to start.

Title track A Dying Machine keeps the vigorous bouts of riffing at a frenetic peak as the vocals are bursting with raw emotion. Waves of calm and chaos flow throughout as the razor sharp guitar work is clinically polished. Trust takes a steadier almost nu metal approach lead with prominent bass lines guiding the infectious grooves. Tremonti has most certainly found his sweet spot for creating memorable vocal patterns that entangle you in his conceptual vision for the album. Further sublime solo work is displayed showcasing just how much talent Tremonti has in the tank as he effortlessly swaggers through a barrage of riffs creating one of the most flamboyant tracks A Dying Machine has to offer.
