Swedish jazz clarinetist. Hasselgård got his clarinet of his step father when he has 16 and joined Royal Swingers during high school. In 1945 he started to work for Arthur Österwall and played in Artur Österwalls Kvinett and Arthur Österwalls Orkester. In 1946 he was part of Simon Brehms Kvintett but later that year he return to finish his studies. After he had graduated in May 1947, Hasselgård left Sweden for New York to study journalism. He continued to play jazz under the alias Stan Hasselgard. His career suddenly ended at the age of 26 in a car accident outside Decatur, Illinois, November.

Greatly influenced by Benny Goodman, Stan Hasselgård was an ill-fated Swedish clarinetist who focused on swing in the late '30s and '40s, but started exploring bebop toward the end of his life. In fact, he was among the first musicians to play bop on the clarinet. The jazzman was born Ake Hasselgård in Sundsvall, Sweden, but grew up in the small town of Bollnas. Hasselgård was given a clarinet for his 16th birthday.

Sten Åke Henry "Stan" Hasselgård (October 4, 1922, Sundsvall, Sweden - November 23, 1948, Decatur, Illinois) was a Swedish jazz clarinetist. Hasselgård was heavily influenced by Benny Goodman, and he played swing jazz in his early years before exploring bebop shortly before his death. His father was John Levin Johansson (1886-1923), a son of Johan Ludvig Persson who later changed his name to John Hasselgård; his mother was Linda Köhler (1893-1979), a daughter of Magnus Wilhelm Köhler.
