Tom Paxton (born Thomas Richard Paxton on October 31, 1937) is an American singer-songwriter of folk music whose songs have had enduring appeal (and include modern standards such as "The Last Thing on My Mind") known for a cynical, often political edge. In 2009, he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Paxton was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest child of Burton and Esther Paxton.
April 2019 UK Tour Announcement.
Paxton decided to try some more elaborate recording techniques, including neo-chamber music with string sections, flutes, horns, piano, various session musicians, as well as his acoustic guitar and vocals, similar to what his labelmate Judy Collins and his friend Phil Ochs were experimenting with around this time. Paxton finally broke into the album pop charts with The Things I Notice Now in the summer of 1969, and also charted with Tom Paxton 6 in the spring of the following year.
Tom Paxton has produced quite a few albums of his own and there are also many albums which contain a track or three by him or which feature his songs recorded by other artists. I don't usually list such albums on these pages but you might be interested to know that he can be heard, along with Anne Hills, on Appleseed's recent 2-CD set by Pete Seeger & Friends, "Seeds: The Songs of Pete Seeger, Vol. 3," which coincidentally is a Grammy finalist in the "Best Traditional Folk Recording" category. 21, 2002: Tom Paxton has graciously given me permission to include lyrics on these pages so I will be adding same, time permitting. Thanks to Martin Waters martinsol. com for his contribution of details for the album "Ain't That News" and much of the information about British Releases.

Paxton finally broke into the album pop charts with The Things I Notice Now in the summer of 1969, and also charted with Tom Paxton 6 in the spring of the following year. His song "Whose Garden Was This", an environmentalist anthem written for the first Earth Day, was later recorded by John Denver and became the title track of Denver's 1970 album . The album gave him his highest chart ranking in the . but it only reached number 120 and his next album, Peace Will Come (1972), barely even reached the charts. He soon returned to New York City and the Long Island town of East Hampton before moving to the Washington, .
