Victor Davies (2), London Symphony Orchestra, Boris Brott, Irmgard Baerg - The Mennonite Piano Concerto. And When They Shall Ask ‎(LP, Album). Digital PSC 101. Canada.

The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) has been associated with the cinema since the days of silent film Since 1935 the LSO has recorded the musical scores of more than 200 films. The orchestra owed its engagement for its first run of soundtrack sessions to Muir Mathieson, musical director of Korda Studios. It's Hard to be Good.

This release from the London Symphony Orchestra's LSO Live series features a program that the orchestra must have played hundreds of times over its long history: Mendelssohn's well-loved Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56 ("Scottish"), and Hebrides Overture, Op. 26, with the Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54, in between. There are substantial attractions, but they don't necessarily come where some think they might.

Tommy is a 1972 album, based on the original 1969 album by The Who, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Measham, of arrangements by Wil Malone. The project was conceived by Lou Reizner, initially with Rod Stewart singing Roger Daltrey's main role. As Pete Townshend and Daltrey became more involved, Stewart's role was reduced to singing "Pinball Wizard".

Haitink at 90: Birthday Concert with the London Symphony Orchestra. Bernard Haitink conducts Mozart and Bruckner – With Till Fellner Haitink at 90: Birthday Concert with the London Symphony Orchestra. Together they present a program featuring Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22 and Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony. Born and trained in the Netherlands, the maestro Bernard Haitink is beloved by both the orchestral musicians that he has conducted and the audiences for which he has performed. Celebrated for his interpretations of Gustav Mahler, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, Dmitri Chostakovitch, Franz Liszt, and Anton Bruckner, he is described by Till Fellner-the solo pianist who performs on the second half of the program-as above all a very noble man and musician.

The London Symphony Orchestra performs over 120 concerts a year at the Barbican Centre in London and on tour around the world. Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto was written after a very dark period in the composer’s life. The premiere of his First Symphony in 1897 was disastrous and the piece was poorly received. One critic wrote, ‘This music leaves an evil impression with its broken rhythms, obscurity and vagueness of form, meaningless repetition of the same short tricks, the nasal sound of the orchestra, the strained crash of the brass, and above all its sickly perverse harmonizatio. Rachmaninov walked out of the performance early and was crushed by the overwhelmingly negative response
