I love the guy. His musicianship is undeniably good. But it’s over now. The Church will have to move on without him or have no Church at all. )

Not to worry, Further Deeper is unmistakeably a Church album and a very good one too. Peter Koppes really shines (there are a few nods to Starfish in there - listen for them. and Ian Haug sounds as if he's been there for ages. Further Deeper is one of those records that grows on you and gets better with each listen. Bands that have been around for 35 years should not have some of the best songs they've ever written still in them at this stage of their career, but The Church have pulled it off. Even if you haven't listened to The Church in years, there's no better time than now to rediscover them. 4 people found this helpful.
The Church has released its 25th studio album, Further/Deeper. Led by riter Steve Kilbey, the Australian rock outfit may be most well known for its 1980s alternative hit, Under the Milky Way. Further/Deeper came together easily, Kilby said. The magic started on day one. Someone strummed a chord or struck a drum or plucked a note and we were off. We wrote and recorded like demons and it was inspiring to feel every member using all his resources in the service of this record.
Further/Deeper is the 24th album by the Australian alternative rock band The Church, released in October 2014. It was the first Church album in five years, during which time founding guitarist Marty Willson-Piper moved to Sweden and was replaced by former Powderfinger guitarist Ian Haug. Kilbey said Haug was asked to join the band on the album only after he had tried for six months to contact Willson-Piper. Marty wasn't kicked out or asked to leave. He went to Sweden and when I started writing to him to say let's make an album, he didn't even write back. In late 2014 The Church played numerous Australian gigs at which they played the full album. A similar tour of the USA followed in Feb 2015, with selected past songs added at various gigs. The band returned to the US in the Summer of 2015 for a co-headline tour with the Psychedelic Furs. The album was released in the US with 12 tracks and overseas with 15 tracks.
