Talk about Byron Lee And The Dragonaires - Byron Lee And The Dragonaires

The Sphinx of Driz
Early reggae/ska rhythms akin to Lee Perry's "Return of Django" classic. To these ears, "Byron Lee and the Dragonaires" more than holds its own. Arthur Jenkins enjoyed a long career and played with Bob Marley and John Lennon. He handles keyboards here-simmering over and under The Dragonaires who cook. Johnny Nash and Jenkins produce it. Nash who sang the first U.S. reggae hit, "I Can See Clearly Now" adds his vocals here to "Every Day Will Be a Holiday", the single. One wishes his singing were present on the other cuts, but they're all instrumental. The sound on the stereo pressing is sonically fine. Horns and percussion are distinct from each other. Lee's guitar, vocals and Jenkins' keys mix to the front. One early Bob Marley composition "Nice Time" closes the disc. The playing is reserved but tasty. A very enjoyable precursor to the reggae and ska movements that hit big a few years later.
Grinin
Soulful groovy early reggae style fine instrumental music with smooth horn arrangements and trombone solos. Most tracks are only available on this record on this label. My advise is whenever you find this record, buy it.
