We Are Family is the third studio album by the American R&B vocal group Sister Sledge, released on January 22, 1979 in the United States and on April 30, 1979 in the United Kingdom by Cotillion Records. The album was written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of the band Chic, and includes four hit singles: the title track, "He's the Greatest Dancer", "Lost in Music", and "Thinking of You", all of which have been sampled, remixed, and reissued in the decades after the album's release.

Sister Sledge’s first album Circle of Love was released by ATCO (a subsidiary of Atlantic Records) in 1975 and included songs written by Gwen Guthrie and Gwen's then-boyfriend, studio bassist Patrick Grant who later changed his name to Haras Fyre. The group enjoyed some success in Europe and as a result, the album Together was recorded in Germany in 1977. Sister Sledge were duly invited to perform the national anthem at the opening game in front of 45,000 fans. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA and produced two more classic disco singles, "Lost in Music" and "Thinking of You". The lead single "Love Somebody Today" scored moderately well, charting at No. 6 on R&B and No. 64 on the pop chart

Sister Sledge were an R&B vocal group from Philadelphia consisting of sisters Debra, Joni, Kim & Kathy Sledge. They issued numerous albums throughout the 1970's & 1980's. They are best known for their big hit "We Are Family". Even though that album has been issued on CD, most of their other albums have not. We now rectify that situation with the release of seven of their albums, all but one making their worldwide CD debuts.

Sister Sledge is four sisters whose last names really are Sledge. They were a backup band for various artists before releasing this album, which was their first.
