About Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes. The title of this song, and the album that it comes from are taken from a quote by imprisoned journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal. Abu-Jamal is seen by many on the left as a political prisoner as he reported on police abuse in Philadelphia, PA before being falsely accused and convicted of the murder of a police officer. Conventional wisdom would have one believe that it is insane to resist this, the mightiest of empire. ut what history really shows is that TODAY’S EMPIRE IS TOMORROW’S ASHES, that nothing lasts forever, and that to not resist is to acquiesce in your own oppression. the greatest form of sanity that anyone can exercise is to resist that force that is. trying to repress, oppress, and fight down the human spirit. This quote appears on the back of the lyric booklet that comes with the album. Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes" Track Info.
