Buffy is the tenth album by Buffy Sainte-Marie and her first after leaving Vanguard Records, with whom her relationship had been strained for several albums. Despite being on a different label from its predecessor Quiet Places, Buffy was recorded with essentially the same personnel in Norbert Putnam on bass, David Briggs on keyboards, Kenny Malone on drums and the Memphis Horns. Together, these gave a sound far removed from her initial folk roots and much closer to ordinary rock

Mister Can't You see" is best known, however, as recorded by Buffy Sainte-Marie on her 1972 album Moonshot, where it was the final track and second single. Owing to a major promotional campaign by Vanguard Records, eager to make up for losses incurred with past Sainte-Marie albums, the label promoted the single vigorously and as a result it became Sainte-Marie's only single or album to reach the Top 75 on Billboard. Some of her songs such as Now That The Buffalos Gone, in 1967, she released Fire and Fleet and Candlelight, which contained her interpretation of the traditional Yorkshire dialect song Lyke Wake Dirge.
