The Power of the True Love Knot is an album by Shirley Collins. The theme of this collection of songs is "the idea of true love as a power outside society's control", as Shirley writes on the liner notes. If the first track sounds slightly like "Eleanor Rigby", this is because Bram Taylor plays cello on both of them. Two other guests are Mike Heron and Robin Williamson from The Incredible String Band. The relationship bore fruit on Shirley's next album

Recorded in London in a two-day marathon, the most distinctive voice in British folk song interpretation recorded this album of a cappella renditions of British and Irish tunes.

Notes

Labels are blue with silver text with 701 Seventh Ave address and dated 1959. However, this is a reissue dating from the mid ‘60s to early ‘70s, which is the period from which Folkways operated from 701 Seventh Ave. The address on the booklet, 117 W. 46th St, is the address that Folkways operated from in 1959, indicating that the original booklet was reused for this reissue rather than reprinted (as also often happened) with the latest address. Contrast the first release Shirley Collins - False True Lovers which shows 117 W. 46th St on the labels.

"False True Lovers", "Shirley Elizabeth Collins" and "Alan Lomax" are written in white text on front cover. Tracklisting on back cover is also in white, and there is no text on back underneath the line "Descriptive Notes Are Inside Pocket". Consistent with the original release, the labels mistakenly read "True False Lovers" rather than "False True Lovers".
