Visions of Excess is the second album by the Golden Palominos. Studio album by. The Golden Palominos are an American musical group headed by drummer and composer Anton Fier, first formed in 1981. Aside from Fier, the Palominos membership has been wildly elastic, with only bassist Bill Laswell and guitarist Nicky Skopelitis appearing on every album through 1996. Their latest work, 2012's A Good Country Mile features vocalist Kevn Kinney. While the Palominos' records usually featured a core set of musicians and a certain emotional continuity throughout the bulk of an album, various guest appearances resulted in stylistic changes from track to track

Consumer Guide Album. The Golden Palominos: Visions of Excess As formal experiments go, this packs quite a wallop, and not just because a drummer supervised the mix-Anton Fier clearly loves and understands that much-mocked arena-rock megawattage. But a formal experiment it remains, because neither guitars not voices carry meaning of their own. Jody Harris has always had a weakness for the genre exercise (as has Mike Hampton, for that matter), and the five stellar singer-lyricists sound like they were brought in to finish the tracks

1985's "Visions Of Excess" is the 2nd album for the Golden Palominos, the New York studio collective led by drummer Anton Fier, and it represents the first of many changes in musical direction for the group (they never deliver the same kind of album twice). The first time around, on their self-titled debut disc, the Palominos were a very out-there, avant-garde fusion group.
