Midnight Mushrumps' bridges the gap between the folk of their first album and the jazzy prog of their forthcoming albums. Its centerpiece seems to be the title track, a 19- minute excursion that never seems to get off the ground completely. Most parts are delicately presented, dynamics on a pretty even keel, everything generally quite mellow.

Midnight Mushrumps is the second studio album made by the band Gryphon. The album was released on Transatlantic Records in the UK, catalogue number TRA 282. The album was engineered by Dave Grinsted and recorded at the Chipping Norton Recording Studios, Oxfordshire, in January 1974.

Gryphon/Midnight Mushrumps Album.

The group was still doing some folk-type vocal numbers on this, their second album, but it was clearly moving in the direction of progressive rock. The 18-minute title track by Richard Harvey took up one whole side of the original LP, and incorporated medieval, baroque, and classical-era influences in its structure.
