August and Everything After is the debut studio album by American rock band Counting Crows, released September 14, 1993 on Geffen Records. The album cover depicts handwritten lyrics to a song called "August and Everything After", but the band decided against featuring the song on the album of the same name; it was not until over a decade later that it was played as part of one of their live concerts.

Counting Crows gained popularity following the release of its debut album, August and Everything After (1993). Featuring the breakthrough hit single "Mr. Jones" (1993), the album sold more than seven million copies in the United States. The band received two Grammy Awards nominations in 1994, one for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal (for "Round Here") and one for Best New Artist. One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret, Never to be told The rhyme is featured in the song "A Murder of One" on the band's début album, August and Everything After.

Album · 1993 · 11 Songs. With ringing chords and insistent grooves, Omaha and Mr. Jones are immediately inviting, but even in their poppy moments, Counting Crows always sound like a bunch of guys jamming in a living room. in the impressionistic portraiture of Round Here and the jangly rushes of Rain King, while Duritz takes Van Morrison’s cue with the empathetic, unpredictable vocal expressions of Anna Begins. August and Everything After Counting Crows.

Resist that urge when it comes to Counting Crows; if you don’t, you’ll be instantly reminded of the inoffensive contemporaries (Hootie! Blues.

Counting Crows put in the gigging hours during the early days of the band, and it paid off. By the time they signed to Geffen in 1993, they had already built up a significant fan base. Their debut, August and Everything After, produced by T-Bone Burnett, was released later the same year and became an unexpected multi-platinum hit, partly as a result of the successful single "Mr. Jones  . Thus Analogue Productions has reissued August and Everything After as a double LP set to maximize the dynamic range of this recording. This is the first time that the 'Crows multi-platinum smash has been released in the .

Their debut album, August and Everything After, burst at the seams with both dominant pop harmonies and rich, hearty ballads, all thanks to lead singer Adam Duritz. The lone guitar work of "Mr. Jones" coupled with the sweet, in-front pull of Duritz's voice kicked off the album in full force. The starkly beautiful and lonely sounding "Round Here" captured the band's honest yet subtle talent for singing ballads, while "Omaha" is lyrically reminiscent of a Springsteen tune.

August and Everything After was one of many lyric ideas in the notebook of Adam Duritz back when the band first entered the studio in early 1993, but his efforts to record the nine-minute song never went anywhere. It was just me on the piano, which was probably a bad arrangement for it, says Duritz. The title, however, stuck around his mind and became the name of the album. I was born in August, says Duritz. The record was about everything that happened after that. I loved the title more than I liked the song, quite honestly. But we did include some of my handwritten lyrics to it on the cover since I didn’t want to include anything that we were actually using. The song remained little more than a rumor among Counting Crows fans until a random show at San Francisco’s Warfield in December of 2003 when the band attempted to play it live.

Talk about Counting Crows - August And Everything After

Finally picked this up. It's well worth the money and my copy had no off-centering.I played this copy and then the CD I have form way back when. It's clear how well of a job they did on this. Everything is much clearer than it was. I also love that Round Here sounds much clearer than the CD (everything does, but the beginning of Round Here drove me nuts on CD).
Tejar
Both side C and D are very off-center on my pressing. Very disappointing.
Hap
Does anyone have any info on the orange vinyl pressing they released at shows this Summer? I can't seem to find any info on it.
Wen
Thanks for the info! So that doesn't warrant a new version/listing?

The barcode matches the 2017 Back To Black version, but the matrices are unique to the colored pressing. It is almost certainly 180g as well, very thick.
Quamar
Definitely not a cheap record but the SQ is amazing. Mastered at Sterling Sound, cut directly from the original tapes (AAA). It's like listening to this classic record for the first time. Drums and bass are more refined, the overall soundstage has improved a lot. However... side D is slightly off centered. Hype stickers all over with QRP and how good these releases are... it's a shame that even at this price records have problems like this.

This is the only version of this you'll ever need to own. Marvelous!
Awene
This is without a doubt the best version of this record to own. Absolutely phenomenal sound!
Mr.Death
This is one of those very rare albums which is so very well mastered and produced and which I believe will not be superseeded by any other audio format. Happened to be present at several live concerts of the Counting Crows, this release is so incredibly close to a great live performance. For what it's worth, I get goose bumps every time I play it. Highly recommended.
Rleillin
You're so right. One of the greatest albums ever recorded, this sound is incredible. I love it till the end."Goose bumps" is appropriate here. From the first track to the last!
Humin
Sounds fantastic! Every track comes alive. So many great songs on this album that I forgot about.

Their debut, August and Everything After, produced by T-Bone Burnett, was released later the same year and became an unexpected multi-platinum hit, partly as a result of the successful single "Mr. Jones.""We were fortunate that this was recorded to analog in an age that had many digital recordings," says Acoustic Sounds founder and CEO Chad Kassem, who describes August and Everything After as "one of the better albums in the entire '90s," with a timeless vibe and classic pop sound. Although recorded to audio tape, the album was originally mastered for CD and featured a longer playing time than a standard LP. Thus Analogue Productions has reissued August and Everything After as a double LP set to maximize the dynamic range of this recording. This is the first time that the 'Crows multi-platinum smash has been released in the U.S. as an LP. Mastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.
