Francis Kelly (28 December 1938 – 28 February 2016), was an Irish actor, singer and writer, whose career covered television, radio, theatre, music, screenwriting and film. He played Father Jack Hackett in the Channel Four sitcom Father Ted, and was also the son of the cartoonist Charles E. Kelly. Kelly was born, in 1938, in Blackrock, south County Dublin, where he lived most of his life. His parents were Kathleen and Charles E. Kelly, cartoonist and founder of the satirical magazine Dublin Opinion

The album was primarily recorded in the same studio where the Sex Pistols were finishing Never Mind the Bollocks, leading to some memorable encounters between the two bands. Most of News of the World‘s tracks were cut at London’s Wessex Studios, an arrangement which put the band on a collision course with British punks the Sex Pistols, who were working in the same studio complex on their landmark debut album. I think it was one of those things which surfaces now and again in different ways. I think I wrote the song for the album thinking that I was writing it about something completely different – but I think part of it was sort of getting it out of my system. 10. The album’s cover was painted by noted science-fiction artist Frank Kelly Freas, based on a magazine cover he’d done nearly a quarter century earlier.

Frank Kelly was educated at the University of Scranton, and at the University of Kansas. For most of his professional life, he taught English at Farmingdale State College in New York. Frank collaborated on three stage musicals, The Texas Chainsaw Musical, Xmas! The Xpose! and Pageant. The last has played off-Broadway, in the West End, in Australia, Japan and all over the United States. Growing Up Me: A Memoir in Poems is his first book. Frank Kelly had a long career on stage, screen, TV and radio, as a writer, actor, singer and entertainer. Frank Kelly Freas served as Coordinating Judge for the Illustrators of the Future Contest for the first eight years after the Contest’s inception in 1988, and he remained a judge until he passed away in 2005. When I was first setting out, many established pros went out of their way to help me.
