Victor Young was born into a poor, but musical family. He was educated at the Warsaw Conservatory in Poland. As a teenager, he toured Europe as violinist with the Warsaw Philharmonic, and later gave imperial concerts in Russia. He returned to the United States in 1920, working in Chicago as a violinist, arranger and conductor for radio and theater during the 1920s and 1930s. He arranged many of Bing Crosby's records for Decca, and worked as a songwriter for Broadway musicals and revues. Young joined Paramount studios in 1935 and worked on more than 300 film scores over a period of twenty. SEVENTH HEAVEN was a Broadway musical flop which shuttered after 44 performances at the ANTA Theatre. The score by Victor Young and Stella Unger is average at best. Chita Rivera played one of the three streetwalkers in the show (the others were played by Gerrianne Raphael and Patricia Hammerlee). In any case solely as a cast album, esp. for those interested in V Young's career, I definitely recommend the purchase of this CD, despite caveats mentioned herein.

Opening May 26, 1955, Seventh Heaven was the final show of the 1954-1955 season, and it never had a chance to find an audience, closing after 44 performances on July 2. The cast album reveals the performers to be talented, particularly Clary, who has three big, lively numbers. But it also reveals one possible reason for the show's failure, a pedestrian score. Young's movie credentials are referenced in the instrumental "Chico's Reverie," which sounds like it came from one of his films. Stella Unger, Victor Young. Original Broadway Cast.

Wicked is a cast recording containing the majority of the songs from the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Wicked, with music and lyrics by composer Stephen Schwartz and a book by writer Winnie Holzman. Released on December 16, 2003 by Decca Broadway both in physical and digital releases. The former contains a foreword and a short synopsis, provided by Gregory Maguire, who wrote the 1995 novel on which the musical is based, in addition to lyrics to those songs included.
