Glacial, barren and difficult, OCTAVIUS' Laws arrives in stark contrast to synth pop-derived efforts of recent fashion. The album also includes a number of other collaborators, including No'a Winter Lazerus (producer/engineer for Pink Floyd, Laurie Anderson, Michael Jackson and Tom Waits), Data Bomb (Skinny Puppy and Otto von Schirach collaborator) and Jay Sonic (HOTTUB, LeHeat Records).

The Octavius was an apocryphal 18th century ghost ship. According to lore, the three-masted schooner was found west of Greenland by the whaler Herald on 11 October 1775. Boarded as a derelict, the five-man boarding party found the entire crew of 28 below deck: dead, frozen, and almost perfectly preserved
