Matthew Charles Fisher (born 7 March 1946) is an English musician, songwriter and producer. Fisher was born and grew up in Addiscombe, Croydon. He attended Selhurst Grammar School, playing the organ at morning assemblies

BGO combined Matthew Fisher's (Procol Harum) first two solo albums from the early '70s - Journey's End and I'll Be There - on a single compact disc in 2000. In October 1967, as Procol Harum's follow-up to A Whiter Shade of Pale was riding high in the UK singles chart, The New Musical Express proclaimed that 'organist Matthew Fisher is to make an LP without the other members of the group'. When RCA eventually did release a Fisher solo album in the late summer of 1973, Rolling Stone raved that 'Journey's End is one of those rare albums in which the first few seconds of the first track are enough to convince the listener that something exceptional is going o. In the UK a more guarded NME found that . t deserves more attention than it is likely to receive.

After Matthew Fisher's three-year stint as Procol Harum's keyboard player, which includes his work on A Whiter Shade of Pale, he went on to produce Robin Trower's first three solo albums before he released his own in 1973. Although this album, Journey's End, and his next one, entitled I'll Be There, failed to bring Fisher any substantial acclaim, 1980's self-titled release sparked some promise, thanks to some renowned help and sharper songwriting. This album focuses more attention on Fisher's Hammond organ prowess than Strange Days, while the songs are engulfed in a sturdier rock (and soft rock) habitat as well. Fisher's playing isn't bewildering or rambunctious, but his keyboard does elevate his singing, giving songs such as "Back in Your Arms Again" and "Just How Blind" some added persona.

The album was produced by organist Matthew Fisher, formerly Trower's bandmate in Procol Harum. Acclaimed Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick was this album's sound engineer. In an interview with Guitar World, Trower explained how the album got its title. Robin said that he had had the first line of the song for years and one day saw some sport pages which listed a racehorse called Bridge of Sighs, which he thought would be a great title. Bridge of Sighs (Chrysalis 1057) reached in the United States during a chart stay of 31 weeks. It was certified Gold on 10 September 1974.
