Talk about Tower - Titan

Bloodfire
Everything is unusual about this album. Tower (3) is an unknown symphonic rock band from the Netherlands. They enjoyed little or no success abroad. Their one and only album listens as an epic story with a beautiful beginning, the Introduction. It contains a huge strings section and large orchestral parts, coming back throughout the whole story, also having a magnificent ending, the Epilogue. It almost feels like an excellent ELO album and sometimes the vocals remind me of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. You might even call it a rock opera. The beautiful cover is unusual as well, featuring the track listing on the front. After spinning it, the music lingers in your mind and the next day? Yes, let's spin it again. It's the power of Tower! The Netherlands, a tiny country in the world, but the album Titan sounds big and powerful, like the largest moon of Saturn.

They were discovered by Cat Music - that's the guys who made music as Catapult, the Monotones, Rubberen Robbie, the Video Kids and probably some more acts. Cat Music helped write and produce the album. The similarity to ELO is probably done on purpose. The singers were probably also the actual vocalists of disco hit act 'Fantastique' , but that act used different people on stage. The album is not really one complete SF story. Some songs (XIO) are a story in their own right, others (See You Tonight) are lovesongs unrelated to the SF theme. I find the poor command of English a bit offputting, the lyrics tend to be a bit childish: The birds are barking one by one, they're laying in the sun.... or: I think it's Venus what I see outside, 'cause the computer didn't feel alright... Still a good album, brings back good times.

Indeed. I remembered them from their single 'See You Tonight'. Never thought I'd actually find the vinyl album but it ended up in my collection somehow. Don't know when or where I found it, but I'm glad that I did.
