The Essence is a Dutch rock band formed in 1984. The Essence signed to Midnight Music after a year of gigging. In 1986 the collaboration resulted in the release of their debut album "Purity" preceded by the 12" single "Endless Lakes", which were both received very well, especially in Holland and Germany.

Thrash Heavy Quorthon. By the time this Album came out, Quorthon had more or less gotten enough inspiration to continue through with Bathory on his own and had already brought out two thrash Albums and the completion of the mysterious Blood on Ice concept Album. However, our great metal hero still had more to bring out that was not fully in the same vein as Bathory. This brings us to Purity of Essence, a two-disc deal that Quorthon's last exploration into the world of grunge and regular metal.

The Essence of Black Purity is the third release by the black metal band Watain. It was released in 1999 on EP format on Grim Rune Records and was limited to 300 copies.

The band originally formed as a three piece in 1984, hailing from Rotterdam, a region in the Netherlands.
