Tanx is the forth studio album by English glam rock act T. Rex, their eighth if including the group's earlier incarnation as Tyrannosaurus Rex. released on 16 March 1973 by record label EMI. Tanx was a musical departure from previous works: still containing tracks in the vein of The Slider, Marc Bolan showed his interest for both American soul music and funk. Female backing singers appeared on a few tracks. New instruments such as mellotron were used, allowing the T. Rex sound to evolve.

This massive repackaging of Tanx/Zinc Alloy inspects a two-year period in Bolan's glam rock phase, which could be looked upon as transitional, moving away from the woozy, sexy hard rock of Electric Warrior and The Slider into far more soul-inflected pop fare. When Tanx and Zinc Alloy appeared in 1973 and 1974, respectively, they were initially seen as commercially disappointing, with depleted sales and far less in the way of hits than their predecessors.

This new collection features the albums Tanx (1973) and Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow (1974), both newly remastered by original producer Tony Visconti. The DVD will include promo videos and TV appearances and the whole thing comes delivered in a 12″ x 12″ hardback book with new notes by Mark Paytress and Tony Visconti.

Tanx is a great great album which I first bought when it was originally released. Loved it then still love it and really like the improved sound quality to hear even more of the "sound". I've never been taken with the sleeve image and for me it's still a poor selection that devalues the quality of the songs and talent of the artist. The other sleeve images including ZInc Alloy are all really strong so I'd love to understand what the deal is with the Tanx image. Having said all that great songs. I've been a T. Rex fan since I was 12 and am delighted with the newest remixed and remastered versions of Tanx and Zinc Alloy. No new material, except for DVD showing a home VHS recording from Top of the Pops of Teenage Dream. The presentation is first class with additional sleeve notes and pictures, perhaps it would have been better if the two albums had been presented separately but.
