The Strait of Hormuz dispute is an ongoing dispute between a coalition of countries and Iran. The dispute arose on 27 December 2011, when Iranian Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz. In late April 2019 Iran said that it will block any shipping if it was barred from using the strategic waterway and in face of US sanctions.

Strait Of Hormuz Tension Chokes Global Oil Supply. Recent Attacks on The Strait of Hormuz Threaten Global Oil Supply. Recent Attacks on The Strait of Hormuz Threaten Global Oil Supply The Strait of Hormuz is at most only 30 miles wide. It connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, and it is a. Alexander Fleiss is at Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz lies between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, providing the only sea passage for crude oil from many of the world's largest oil producers - including Kuwait, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq and the UAE - to the Indian Ocean. Just 34 kilometers (21 miles) wide at its narrowest point, the shipping lane is only 3 kilometers wide in either direction. With OPEC's top five exporters inside the Gulf, the volume of oil crossing the Strait has been constantly increasing each year, underlining its status as the most important maritime trade route for black gold

Hormuz Island, also spelled Hormoz, is an Iranian island in the Persian Gulf. Located in the Strait of Hormuz, 8 kilometres (5 mi) off the Iranian coast, the island is part of Hormozgan Province. Hormuz Island has an area of 42 km2 (16 sq mi). It is covered by sedimentary rock and layers of volcanic material on its surface. The highest point of the island is about 186 metres (610 ft) above sea level. Due to a lack of precipitation, the soil and water are salty.

Piracy in the Strait of Hormuz. Piracy has taken place in a maritime area bounded by the Suez and the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately 35 percent of all crude oil shipped by sea and one-third of all liquefied natural gas pass through the strait. High Risk Areas for piracy (HRA) have been declared in different parts of the world to reflect precautions to be taken when ships transit them.

The strait is only 21 to 60 miles (33 to 95 km) wide throughout its length. The Strait of Hormuz is important because it is a geographic chokepoint and a main artery for the transport of oil from the Middle East. Due to its importance, Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz several times in recent history

The Strait of Hormuz is a key pinchpoint at the eastern end of the Persian Gulf and a third of all oil traded by sea is said to pass through it. Last summer Iran agreed a deal with the US and five other world powers to scale down its controversial nuclear programme in return for the lifting of crushing economic sanctions. The Iranian navy is pictured conducting naval wargames in the Strait of Hormuz in 2012. Earlier this year the US Navy was humiliated when the Iranians captured 10 seamen who had unwittingly sailed into Iranian waters.

By blocking Strait of Hormuz,Iran can literally block the oil supply to the US and can pull down the US government in its feet. Iran's seriousness over the issue can be seen as 5th fleet of it's navy is continuously passing through the path and virtually blocking Any movements from the Strait. It's a totally surprise step by the Iran which had forced the US government and Trump administration to think again about its policies towards Iran.
