Reggae Sunsplash is a reggae music festival first staged in 1978 in the northern part of Jamaica. In 1985 it expanded with the addition of an international touring festival. The festival ran annually until 1996, with a final event in 1998, before it was revived in 2006 then discontinued while an international tour remains. Reggae Sumfest is now Jamaica's biggest reggae festival.

Originally issued at the height of Chalice's career in 1984, these live recordings retain their freshness years later in CD format with a slick remastering job. At home on stage, these six joints illustrate what consummate entertainers the members of Chalice were in their prime. They excel on "I'm Trying," with its bass voicing, the hypnotic "GI Parson," and the harmonic "Road Block. The audience responses are buried so deep they are barely noticeable, which, depending on your preference, is either good or bad. You will be disappointed if you like live.

From 1989 to 1990 CHALICE toured Mexico, and in 1990 their sixth album, Si Mi Ya was released. In December 1990 they were invited to headline the first Mexico Sunsplash. In 1991 a major change took place in the band, when drummer Phanso Wilson and the late lead singer Trevor Roper migrated to the United States. Roper was replaced by Dean Stephens and Wilson by Wayne 'C Sharp' Clarke. Their seventh album, Tuff Enuff was released only in Austria. In 1996 they disbanded. CHALICE regrouped in 2006, ten years after their last performance at Reggae Sumfest
