For DOOM protégé the Darkmonk's solo debut, a lineup of big underground producers brings some solid beats, but the album sinks under the weight of the main rapper's leaden and completely monotone flows  . An album that poses the question, "Can the Darkmonk stop the evil global leader and his army of cyborgs?" I don't know. Can he? I had a lot of thoughts about True Underlord before I even opened it up. Once I opened it up I had even MORE thoughts. Yes? No? - I've listened to this album from front to back and back again, twice, and the actual music contained on it has not, in any way, registered in my brain. I'm still left with the general thought: "what?" - What? - I can't stop looking at the album art for this.

The work in question, True Underlord, features production from Jake One, Wesu, Herbaliser and CX Kindtronik–just to name a few–and follows a more ‘lo-fi beat’s type of production. The album also features a clumsy, if entertaining, rap style, predicated on the need to keep rhymes going–as on tracks like Real Terror where the words bologna, homie, phony, noisy, cozy, smoky and little croddies were all placed together within a few bars
