King Oliver & his Dixie Syncopators - "Papa Joe" (1926-1928) is a 1968 DECCA reissue from the French "Jazz Heritage Series. This later MCA version has alternate cover art but the same playlist as the original LP. Musicians featured on various sides: Ed Anderson (cornet); Jimmy Archey (trombone); Paul Barbarin (drums); Paul Barnes (alto & soprano sax); Barney Bigard (clarinet & tenor sax); Lawson Buford (tuba); Bert Cobb (tuba); Tick Gray (cornet); Ernest Elliott (clarinet & alto sax);.

Joseph Nathan "King" Oliver (December 19, 1881 – April 10, 1938) was an American jazz cornet player and bandleader. He was particularly recognized for his playing style and his pioneering use of mutes in jazz. Also a notable composer, he wrote many tunes still played today, including "Dippermouth Blues", "Sweet Like This", "Canal Street Blues", and "Doctor Jazz". He was the mentor and teacher of Louis Armstrong.
